This week’s new Blu-ray releases include two of Universal’s big summer films, the newest ‘exciting’ Ice Age adventure, a special delivery from Planet Express, and HBO’s latest ‘girly’ show. Catalog titles include Warren Betty’s foray into comics, some very non-classic Michael Caine films, and Judd Apatow’s fat camp Holocaust film starring Ben Stiller.
Nick’s Blu-ray Pick of the Week: Ted was my favorite comedy of 2012. I wasn’t sure if Seth MacFarlane’s style of humor would transfer well to the screen but I was dead wrong. The film begins to drag a bit in the last act but there’s so much to laugh at you won’t really care. The theatrical cut and a Director’s Cut with seven minutes of additional footage is included. Special features include an audio commentary with Seth MacFarlane, Alec Sulkin, and Mark Wahlberg, deleted scenes, a making of featurette, gag reel, and more.

Throw Your Money Away Instead of Buying… Heavyweights. Ben Stiller stars in this Judd Apatow written comedy about a fun fat camp for tweens that is taken over by a sadistic workout instructor intent on making the kids shed their extra pounds at any cost. In a strange twist of fate many of the ‘fatties’ from Heavyweights are now skinny with the exception of SNL’s Kenan Thompson who continues his transformation into the real life Fat Albert.
