The Watch (formerly The Neighborhood Watch) was the victim of some overzealous PR spinning after the Trayvon Martin shooting earlier this year. Marketing for the film and the film’s title were changed to distance it from the controversial shooting involving a neighborhood watch member. Even without the shooting tragedy The Watch still wouldn’t have been a very good film however. Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, Richard Ayodade start up a neighborhood watch to a catch a murderer in their community but they soon find out that aliens are behind it all and they’re all that stand in the way of an invasion. Sadly the alien story gets in the way of some very funny (albeit juvenile) dialogue that had me repeatedly in stitches. When the laughs slowed down the film’s many narrative flaws started to became overwhelming and The Watch lost what little steam it had built up.
