Now this is a big week; lots of new releases (a lot of them junk but a couple good ones) and a great assortment of catalog releases including one that I’ve been eagerly awaiting for a long time.
New Releases
Transformers: Dark of the Moon 3D (Blu-ray 3D, 2D Blu-ray, DVD, and UltraViolet Digital Copy)- Yeah, I know it’s bad but I was a Transformers kid and I still get a kick out of watching them… even in 3D (Read my review HERE).

- Features a movie plaque signed by director Michael Bay with images from all three films
Drive- One of my favorite films of 2011 but it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. Includes UltraViolet Digital Copy and some assorted featurettes.
The Thing (2011)- I hate this fucking movie and I recommend you watch John Carpenter’s The Thing which makes this film look like a pile of shit (Read my review HERE). Includes Blu-ray, DVD, UltraViolet, and standard Digital Copy.
In Time- Not a very good film (Read my review HERE) and pretty light on special features. Includes Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital Copy.
- The Minutes behind the scenes featurette
- Deleted and Extended scenes
Dream House- Utterly terrible film (Read my review HERE) with four behind the scenes featurettes that are sure to gloss over the fact that the director was fired in post production and the stars refused to promote the film. Includes the Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital Copy which I can guarantee no one will ever use because who would want to watch Dream House on their portable device far less in their home theater.
Other New Releases: The Big Year, Texas Killing Fields
Catalog Releases
Star Trek: The Next Generation The Next Level- I can’t express how excited I am about this release which includes three fully restored episodes of TNG. Restored from the original camera negatives with ALL the effects being redone to take full advantage of the higher resolution that Blu-ray offers. This single disc release includes the feature length pilot Encounter at Farpoint, the third season episode Sins of the Father, and the Hugo award winning The Inner Light from the fifth season. The pilot isn’t particularly a good episode but it’s a great way to show how much the show looks after the restoration because Encounter at Farpoint is an ugly looking episode. Sins of the Father and The Inner Light are two of TNG’s best episodes and really showcase the show’s writing but neither are special effects heavy but should still provide a bit of eye candy for those on the fence of upgrading their DVD’s. Special features are light on this release with only an IPAD app promo, a trailer for this release, and a trailer for the Complete First Season of Next Generation coming later this year. Be on the lookout for a full review of this release soon.
Other Catalog Releases: To Kill a Mockingbird, Shakespeare in Love
, The English Patient
, Cold Mountain
, The Piano
, Frida
, and Malcolm X
