Amazon Cyber Monday Blu-ray Deal for Thursday
ALIEN ANTHOLOGY
For today only as part of Amazon’s Cyber Monday Week Sales you can pick up the Alien Anthology for only $40.99
(or $10.25 per film). This was my favorite Blu-ray set of last year, you get all four Alien films, great video, audio, and special features on associated with each film plus two discs of additional special features including some of the best film documentaries ever made. Each film features both the original theatrical cut and some kind of Director’s Cut or Extended Cut. I prefer the original cut of Alien, the Director’s Cut of Aliens, and the theatrical cut of Alien Resurrection. You might have noticed I didn’t mention Alien 3; the reason for that is that I wanted to make special mention to the fact that I think Assembly Cut of Alien 3 is one of the best alternative cuts of any film I’ve ever seen. Alien 3 was a troubled production and eventually the film was taken away from director David Fincher (Fight Club) in post production and his vision of the film was lost. The alternative cut of Alien 3 in this set restores over 30 minutes of footage that completely changes the tone of the film and is vastly superior to the theatrical cut. I love Alien and Aliens but the Assembly Cut of Alien 3 is worth the purchase price of this collection alone. This is one of the premiere Blu-ray sets available and I can’t recommend it more highly enough especially at this price point.
